Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
